These are micro-organisms called Myxomycetes (Slime Moulds) that lived alongside our Cretaceous period dinosaurs and unlike our fossil friends, they remain here today without any evolutionary changes.

 

Steve Young our long term volunteer, is currently undertaking a scientific study in the Eromanga area and about 25% of the images in the book are of specimens cultivated from substrates here.

 

The Museum will have a future display area set aside for a story of their evolution once the study is completed.

 

They are an enigmatic little creature, often very photogenic and along with Steve’s photographic expertise have been brought to life for all to see.

 

Steve has also added an additional layer of interest with short musings that mirror the imagery on each page.
