Drive

Famous for being Australia’s furthest town from the ocean, Eromanga is located 108 kilometres west of Quilpie on a fully sealed road. You can drive 1062km along the Warrego Way from Brisbane – all on sealed roads.

If you have the time, we recommend you travel the Natural Sciences Loop from Charleville. This 1265km adventure drive includes Cunnamulla, Thargomindah, Eromanga and Quilpie.  It has it all; birds, opals, fossicking, fossils, starry night skies, rivers, geology, lakes, billabongs, artesian waters, bilbies and the famous Dig Tree. Its natural history and heritage all rolled into one.

Fly

Eromanga Airport (5 mins drive from the museum): There are no scheduled commercial flights into Eromanga Airport with its fully sealed airstrip.  It is suitable for private air charters and tours only.  Free airport transfers are available via the museum mini-bus for booked museum tours. The 1499m long x 18m wide airstrip is under 2kms from the museum and 2.63km south of Eromanga town centre.

  • The airstrip is fully sealed with solar runaway edge lights and 6ft security fencing. It is long enough to land a Dash 8.

Quilpie Airport (One hour drive from Eromanga): REX Airlines operate twice-weekly flights from Brisbane to Quilpie.  Total flight time is just over three hours with stopovers in Toowoomba and St George. Airport transfers from Quilpie Airport to Eromanga may be booked through the museum. The Quilpie Airport has Avgas and Jet A1 for refuelling.

  • Brisbane to Quilpie – Monday and Thursday depart 07.55 arrive 11.40
  • Quilpie to Brisbane – Tuesday and Friday depart 13.35 arrives 17.15

Charleville Airport (3 hours drive from the museum): Qantaslink operate daily flights between Brisbane to Charleville.  Charleville Airport offers hire car facilities.

Rail

If you enjoy travelling the rails, then consider the Westerlander train from Brisbane to Charleville with a connecting coach to Quilpie. This rail service is operated by Queensland Rail.
